Together, he and Winifred loved to watch and identify birds on their property.

During his retirement, Wayne enjoyed building model ships and birdhouses. He and Winifred enjoyed camping at Parks Pond in Clifton for many years. He also played pool and went duck hunting. When Wayne wasn't working, he loved halibut fishing. Wayne was also an excellent truck driver, hauling lobster from Canada, and heating oil and gas in Maine. From 1969 to 2012, when he retired, Wayne enjoyed lobster fishing for his main career and was a long-time member and on the boards of directors of the Maine Lobstermen's Association and the Beals-Jonesport Co-Op. During his teen years, Wayne's first taste of work was going on lobster smacks. Together they were members of the Jonesport Wesleyan Church for many years. Later in 1956, Wayne married his wife of sixty-five years, Winifred (Steele).

Wayne was educated in Jonesport schools, graduating from Jonesport High School in 1949. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Jonesport, where Wayne grew up and continued to live through his adult years. The first year of his life was lived aboard a coastal schooner, something Wayne was particularly proud of. Wayne was born at Beals, Maine, the son of Myron E. Jonesport and Milbridge - Wayne Peabody, 89, passed away peacefully June 7, 2021, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, where he received excellent care from the attentive staff.
